José María García Urbano, the mayor, is currently on an official visit to the Czech city of Brno in order to further strengthen the twinning relationship with Estepona. Following a previous visit by Czech authorities to Estepona in April, the mayor vowed to engage with this municipality that has similar goals and challenges to the ‘Garden of the Costa del Sol’. García Urbano emphasized the shared commitment of Brno and Estepona to environmental preservation and the implementation of projects aimed at reclaiming pedestrian areas and expanding green spaces. Both cities also prioritize culture and sports as means to rejuvenate urban life. Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, is renowned across Europe for its historical defense of education, boasting over thirty faculties that accommodate nearly 90,000 university students annually. García Urbano expressed gratitude to the first deputy mayor of Brno, René Cerny, and his team for their hospitality during the visit, highlighting plans for future collaborations between the two cities. He mentioned the joint cultural events organized by Estepona and the Czech Embassy in Spain to showcase the artistic richness of the Slavic nation, underscoring the longstanding positive relations between the two countries.
