The IV Novel Prize City of Estepona has been won by the Argentine author Ariel Magnus with his work ‘Lying the truth’. The contest, organized by the Estepona City Council and the Manuel Alcántara Foundation, awards a prize of 25,000 euros and the winning novel will be published by Pre-Textos. The decision was announced at a ceremony attended by important figures like the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the president of the Manuel Alcántara Foundation, Antonio Pedraza. The Novel Prize aims to strengthen the bond between the city and the arts, providing a valuable recognition for creators. Estepona has been actively promoting cultural initiatives to enhance the quality of life, including literary prizes, a year-long program of activities, and new public cultural facilities like the Library of Contemporary Cultures. The prestigious jury, chaired by Ignacio Martínez de Pisón, highlighted the autobiographical fiction of ‘Lying the truth’ for its connection with current reality through the theme of fake news and information intoxication. Ariel Magnus’ narrative combines real facts with fiction in a compelling way, blurring the lines between reality and invention. The City of Estepona Novel Prize has successfully attracted writers worldwide, with past winners hailing from countries like Mexico, Germany, and Spain. This year’s edition received 771 entries from Spain, Europe, and Latin America, further establishing its international presence as a platform for emerging voices in contemporary narrative.
