The 2026 municipal budget in Estepona dedicates 26.25% of expenditure to maintaining and caring for infrastructures, parks, gardens, beaches, and public buildings. The City Council has approved a budget increase to 34.8 million euros for these services, focusing on the conservation of neighborhoods. Maintenance activities are overseen by the External Control department, covering areas such as parks, gardens, beaches, infrastructure, waste collection, and cleaning. Key allocations in the budget include 9.7 million for parks, gardens, and beaches, 9.1 million for waste collection, 7.4 million for infrastructure conservation, 3.7 million for waste treatment, and 4.7 million for cleaning municipal buildings. This budget marks a new phase as the city no longer has to allocate funds to pay off inherited debt, allowing for tax reductions and increased investments in city improvements and services. The Neighborhood Plan will receive a boost for comprehensive renovations and maintenance of residential areas, including masonry, painting, road signs, electricity, plumbing, gardening, and removal of architectural barriers. A dedicated ‘Neighborhood Brigade’ of workers, along with other municipal staff, will carry out these actions. Additionally, the Asphalting Plan and investments in schools, nursery schools, and sports facilities are priorities in the budget.
