The 130th anniversary of cinema’s birth will be commemorated in Estepona with a film concert featuring international pianist and baritone David Geary on Wednesday, December 17, at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, with free entry until full capacity is reached. David Geary, accompanied by pianist María del Carmen Pérez Blanco, will perform classic film songs alongside singers Julio Peces Ruiz, Marina Ruiz, Miguel López, and María Rosa Pérez. Following the concert, Frank Capra’s iconic film ¡Qué bello es vivir (1946) will be screened, telling the heartwarming story of George Bailey and his guardian angel Clarence Odbody. The event is organized in collaboration with the Asociación Cultural y Cinematográfica de la Costa del Sol ‘Unicornio’, as part of the partnership with the Estepona Town Hall. The history of cinema began in Paris on December 28, 1895, with the Lumière brothers’ first public film screening, marking the birth of this spectacular art form. David Geary, a Toronto-born musician, has dedicated his life to music and opera, enriching Estepona’s musical culture since 2015 with his company ‘La Operita de Estepona’.
