The construction site for the new public parking lot in El Carmen, which will offer more than 300 parking spaces, is now halfway through. This parking facility will be part of the municipal network of affordable parking lots. The Estepona City Council has announced that the works for the sixth public parking lot, where parking will cost only 1 euro during the day, are progressing well after overcoming the initial challenges. Mayor José María García Urbano recently inspected the site and confirmed the advancements in the construction of this cost-effective parking solution. The mayor highlighted the complexity of such projects, especially when they are located near existing buildings, requiring careful planning and execution. Despite initial difficulties faced by the construction company during excavation due to the hardness of the ground, the works are now moving forward at a faster pace and are expected to be completed on time. Once finished, the new El Carmen public parking lot will offer over 300 parking spaces spread across three underground levels. These additional spaces will supplement the existing 2,000 parking spots available in the municipality, including those at the new City Hall, Plaza Antonia Guerrero, the Athletics Stadium, and Plaza del Ajedrez. Furthermore, starting from August 1st, La Viña parking lot will also join the municipal network following its rescue by the City Council. The construction, which commenced in February, is being carried out by Innovaciones Técnicas y Recursos Constructivos S.A. with an investment of 10,001,331 million euros. A portion of this funding, amounting to 1.4 million euros, is provided by the European Union-Next Generation EU through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. Upon completion of the parking lot near the church of El Carmen, the municipality plans to create a square in the area while maintaining the existing surface parking lots and road traffic.
