In a span of around four hours, artists will need to create a picturesque piece showcasing landscapes or charming corners of the city. A panel of esteemed individuals will select the two winning artworks, with prizes of 600 and 300 euros, respectively. The Estepona City Council has announced that the 5th Outdoor Speed Painting Competition ‘Estepona, Jewel of the Costa del Sol’ will take place on Saturday, May 10. Daniel Garcia, the councilman overseeing Historical Heritage, highlighted that the competition aims to celebrate the finest paintings capturing the essence of Estepona. Participants are free to choose their preferred artistic style and location within Estepona for their artwork. The challenge lies in completing the piece within a time frame of roughly four hours. The competition will kick off at 9 am, and submissions must be handed in by 2 pm. The judging panel will consist of respected figures from the art world, with a City Council representative serving as secretary. The announcement of the winners will be made at around 2:30 pm and will be final. Following this, the award ceremony will take place, with 600 euros for the winner and 300 euros for the runner-up. While artists have the freedom to choose their technique, the painting support must be rigid and measure 50 x 70 centimeters. The frames or supports will be provided and sealed by the organizers on the contest day, starting at 8:45 am at Casa de Las Tejerinas. Each participant is allowed to seal a maximum of two supports but can only submit one artwork. Artists must come prepared with all necessary materials for their creation. Upon sealing, participants must submit a completed form outlined in the contest rules available at www.estepona.es. The winning artworks will be added to the Estepona City Council’s art collection. Additionally, the Council will select several pieces for an exhibition at Casa de Las Tejerinas from May 13 to 24. Art enthusiasts are encouraged to explore the city streets on the event day to witness the creative process involved in painting.
