The City Council of Estepona has denied the false rumors circulating about the supposed eviction of the Association for the Rights of Abandoned Animals (ADANA) shelter. The local government aims to reassure citizens who may have been misled by this misinformation, which has been spread by political groups and individuals seeking to create tension within the municipality. This unfounded news could potentially harm an organization dedicated to animal welfare. Mayor José María García Urbano met with ADANA’s president, Susie Brown, and volunteer Fernando Amores to address the situation and clarify that both the association and the City Council have been targeted by these malicious rumors. In April 2021, the Council granted ADANA the use of municipal facilities in Los Pedregales for 75 years, free of charge. The plot, situated in Las Cabrerizas, spans 11,000 square meters. According to the agreement made four years ago, ADANA can continue its services on this municipal land. The mayor expressed gratitude for ADANA’s ongoing work over the past two decades in caring for homeless pets. ADANA takes in animals without owners, providing them with shelter until they find new homes through adoption. The City Council encourages those interested to visit ADANA’s facilities for pet adoptions, where dedicated volunteers care for the animals. Additionally, the Council collaborates with ADANA annually to maintain and improve their surroundings and facilities. This includes regular road maintenance, septic tank servicing, and machinery upkeep for water supply within the facilities.
