Deploying these innovative devices enables the application of state-of-the-art technologies to optimize traffic circulation and respond promptly to congestion or road incidents. The Estepona Municipality is set to reinforce traffic monitoring within the city by expanding the current network of advanced cameras, aiming to enhance urban mobility. The local government will soon open a bidding process for the procurement and installation of over a hundred devices that will be seamlessly integrated into Estepona’s visualization, monitoring, and traffic control system. In 2023, the municipality introduced a cutting-edge system of intelligent cameras for urban traffic control, setting a precedent in the province for its technological sophistication. Now, this system is poised to make a significant advancement by incorporating new surveillance devices with enhanced capabilities and performance, enabling the implementation of innovative technologies to optimize traffic flow and take swift action in case of congestion or accidents. The operation of this system is overseen from the Control Center at the Local Police Headquarters, while also being accessible to other law enforcement agencies as needed. The intelligent system boasts features such as license plate recognition, vehicle geopositioning, real-time interconnection, display, recording, and storage of various data, images, and videos on a central server housed in a City Council facility, accessible from the Local Police Headquarters in Estepona. A total of 110 new cameras will be strategically positioned at 80 locations across the city and its outskirts. Furthermore, the entire traffic video surveillance network can be leveraged to monitor and alleviate traffic speed and density. Therefore, this initiative includes the installation of a speed monitoring point equipped with approved radar, with the exact location yet to be determined. This will be complemented by a license plate capture system on mobile units, transmission of data to the police control center, and a software for managing complaints directly linked to the General Directorate of Traffic database to handle any infractions effectively. The installation of the entire traffic monitoring, visualization, and control system will adhere to the necessary security protocols outlined in the National Security Scheme (ENS), ensuring secure data transmission across the network in compliance with existing security and personal data protection regulations. The contract will encompass not only the supply and installation but also the maintenance of all existing devices, with an estimated project budget of approximately 970,000 euros.
