Scheduled for September 11, the Tour of Spain 2026 will culminate at the Peñas Blancas Refuge. Estepona is set to witness the live action of the Vuelta Ciclista a España once again as it hosts the final stage in 2026. Mayor José María García Urbano announced this decision to Club Unión Ciclista Virgen del Carmen representatives. Specifically, Estepona will be the backdrop for the challenging mountain ascent to the Refugio de Peñas Blancas. This event is expected to be a highlight in Estepona’s sporting calendar next year, featuring a pivotal stage of La Vuelta on September 11. The route will traverse various parts of Malaga province, entering Estepona from Guadalmina and leading up to the demanding climb to Peñas Blancas. García Urbano emphasized the promotional value of this event, highlighting the global exposure Estepona will receive through media coverage reaching millions of viewers in over 200 countries. In preparation for the race, the City Council is organizing a series of activities for local residents to engage with the event, building on past successful collaborations when La Vuelta visited Estepona. The mayor expressed gratitude to La Vuelta’s organizers, particularly general director Javier Guillén, for choosing Estepona once again, as well as to the Provincial Council of Malaga and its president, Francisco Salado, for their support in securing this stage. The Alto de Peñas Blancas, situated in the scenic Sierra Bermeja, will provide a thrilling spectacle for both riders and cycling enthusiasts worldwide, recalling its historic role as the inaugural high finish in Malaga province during La Vuelta Ciclista a España 2013.
