The celebration of Libraries Day this year focuses on the theme ‘Against disinformation: libraries’, aiming to underscore the crucial role that libraries of all kinds play in combating misinformation. Estepona’s City Council has announced that Friday, October 24 is dedicated to Libraries Day, with a series of events planned to emphasize the importance of these spaces dedicated to culture, education, and critical thinking. Over the past three years, the Municipal Library at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center has seen a steady increase in users and services, with 1,029 new registrations and 40,488 visits last year alone. The library has also expanded its collection to cater to foreign language speakers, offering over two thousand books in languages like English, French, German, Italian, and Dutch, serving as a valuable resource for Spanish learners. To mark Libraries Day, a free storytelling session titled ‘Journey to the world of fantasy’ will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the ‘Elvira Lindo’ Children’s Room, featuring the adventurous tale of a pirate boy named Franco. Additionally, the Library of Contemporary Cultures at the Mirador del Carmen will host a talk by Jordi Moltó, known for his work on the TV show ‘El Hormiguero’, exploring the behind-the-scenes of viral videos. This cutting-edge facility, spanning eight floors of the Mirador del Carmen tower, offers advanced technology, diverse bibliographic resources, and a range of amenities for all ages, including podcast recording studios, digital printing services, workshop spaces, and more. As part of its ongoing programming, the Cultural Center will host a special event with Elvira Lindo and a concert by Alondra Bentley on November 27 to celebrate its first anniversary.
