The City Council of Estepona is organizing a free workshop on environmental awareness at Mirador del Carmen on Thursday, February 5. The workshop aims to educate the public about their rights and responsibilities in preventing forest fires. This training session, supported by the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment of the Andalusian Government and the European Union, is open to all citizens, particularly those living in wildland-urban interface areas, property owners, neighborhood associations, and local groups. Estepona was chosen for this initiative due to its vulnerability to forest fires and other climate change-related risks. The program is designed to promote a culture of prevention and citizen co-responsibility, focusing on urban-forest and agroforestry interface areas. Topics covered during the workshop include forest fires in Andalusia, common causes, local risk factors, citizen obligations (such as land cleaning and fire safety), citizen rights, participation, security, and institutional support.
