The urbanization project on Benahavís road in Estepona, which includes the addition of sidewalks and traffic calming measures, is advancing smoothly. The City Council is overseeing this initiative, located between the traffic circles of Mar y Monte and La Alquería, which also involves the installation of lighting, trees, and landscaping. After acquiring ownership of the 2.3 kilometer stretch, the municipality of Estepona has been able to move forward with this long-awaited project. The General Directorate of Road Infrastructures of the Regional Government of Andalusia approved the transfer of ownership to the city a few months ago. The project aims to improve the area by constructing sidewalks for pedestrian traffic and connecting different developments in the vicinity. Additionally, traffic calming measures and pedestrian walkways will be implemented in response to community requests. The work, currently 40 percent complete, has involved clearing the route, constructing the esplanade, and installing rainwater drainage. The next phase will focus on building the sidewalk. With a budget of 1,358,000 euros, the project is expected to be completed in four months, with plans in place to minimize disruptions to traffic during construction. This project fulfills a longstanding demand from local residents and demonstrates the City Council’s commitment to enhancing the urban environment of Estepona.
