Around 38,000 real estate tax bills are receiving an average rebate of 20%. The Estepona City Council has started to implement the largest reduction in Real Estate Tax (IBI) for registered residents. The recent August receipt already reflects the approved reduction, benefiting approximately 38,000 bills. After clearing the total debt of 304 million euros left by previous administrations, the Council can now allocate resources towards the largest tax reduction in the city’s history, which is now being seen in the IBI. This reduction has been applied to almost 38,000 registered resident bills, resulting in a total savings of 6.1 million euros for households. With this measure, the IBI in the city has seen a cumulative decrease of 50% since 2011, thanks to ongoing initiatives. In contrast to past administrations, which imposed the biggest IBI increase in history, the current Council aims to continue reducing the tax burden for citizens. Additionally, the Council has requested an extension until September 30 for voluntary IBI payments to assist taxpayers. Another new initiative involves a 3% reduction in garbage fees for residents who dispose of waste at designated points in the city. This reduction requires an application to the Provincial Collection Board in the first quarter of 2026. The City Hall has already been granting tax benefits in garbage fees to vulnerable neighbors, long-term unemployed individuals, and retirees. These tax reductions have been made possible due to the municipality reaching zero debt after overcoming significant financial challenges. The mayor highlighted the importance of financial discipline and responsible spending in eliminating unnecessary expenses and misuse of public resources. The municipality’s economic recovery also involved clearing debts with various entities, including the Junta de Andalucía, General Treasury of the Social Security, Tax Agency, and suppliers, amounting to over 177 million euros.
