The local government is embarking on a new financial chapter following the achievement of being debt-free, by increasing the funding allocated to organizations in the area dedicated to assisting vulnerable individuals. An additional 119,000 euros will be added to the existing commitment of 173,000 euros. Estepona’s Municipality plans to enhance financial support for social groups this year through a special grant, ensuring that various organizations will receive significantly higher municipal contributions. This initiative is among the initial steps taken by the local government after clearing its debts and utilizing the surplus from last year’s budget. The focus this year is on ensuring that groups assisting vulnerable populations not only meet their basic needs but also have additional resources for new initiatives aimed at enhancing their services. The extraordinary allocation of 119,000 euros will supplement the 173,000 euros already designated for this purpose. Maria Aguilar, the councilor responsible for Citizen Participation and Social Services, emphasizes that this one-time contribution reflects the municipality’s commitment to supporting organizations that cater to those most in need, enabling them to continue their valuable programs. The financial stability of the municipality, with a surplus of 45.63 million euros from last year’s budget and the full repayment of the inherited 304 million euros debt, has made this support possible. The 2025 Municipal Budget remains focused on social welfare, with a primary goal of assisting vulnerable individuals. Financial allocations for aid and social programs will remain flexible to accommodate evolving social needs. Last year, Estepona’s Municipality provided a total of 336,000 euros in financial assistance, supporting associations running projects for vulnerable groups and addressing citizen requests managed through the Social Services department. Assistance included emergency aid, family support, Residential Exclusion Prevention projects, and aid from the Social Fund SAD. Most aid was directed towards bill payments, rent assistance, and food purchases. The municipality also processes requests for programs such as the Child Feeding Enhancement Program in public schools, Water Rate discounts, electric social support, and technical assistance through the Home Help Service.
