Nineteen volunteers who will provide assistance to older people experiencing loneliness have undergone training this week, organized by the City Council of Estepona and Cudeca Foundation. The collaboration agreement between the two institutions aims to address the pressing social issue of population aging and the increasing isolation of many seniors from their social circles. The training, conducted by Inmaculada Ruiz and Eva VĂbora from Cudeca Foundation, covered practical and emotional aspects of companionship such as communication skills, activity planning, handling complex situations, and local resources. The goal is not just to offer companionship, but to provide a meaningful connection that restores the voices, histories, and sense of belonging of the elderly to the community. The training was divided into three modules focusing on understanding loneliness, emotional management, and practical application. Principles of respect, authenticity, commitment, and reciprocity were emphasized. The initiative underscores the importance of volunteers in fostering a compassionate and supportive community for the elderly, ensuring that no one faces old age alone.
