Today, the meeting ‘Awareness and commitment against trafficking’ took place at the Mirador del Carmen auditorium, with the goal of highlighting, raising awareness, and encouraging joint efforts against human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Estepona’s mayor, José María García Urbano, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of addressing this issue that also impacts the local community. Professionals from diverse fields such as education, social services, healthcare, law enforcement, and the public attended the conference. Discussions focused on topics like the prevalence of trafficking in the Costa del Sol, the underlying causes, the link to prostitution and pornography consumption, and the roles of institutions, businesses, and civil society in combatting it. The Estepona City Council’s initiative demonstrates its dedication to human rights defense and combating all forms of exploitation, by fostering dialogue, awareness, and community involvement. Notable attendees included Beatriz Sánchez Álvarez, Luis Mayandía, Cristóbal Garre, and Ignacio Cosidó. The event also addressed trafficking challenges in Malaga and Cadiz, with representatives from various organizations like Hogar Betania, Amar Dragoste, Demeter, and the City of Marbella’s Economic Development and SMEs delegation. The Child Heroes Foundation spearheaded the conference, in collaboration with the Francisco de Vitoria University, Rotary Club of Puerto Banus, and Hotel Occidental Puerto Banus, supported by the City of Estepona.
