Scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 21 at the Paseo Marítimo, the event will welcome up to 200 players of varying ages. Estepona’s City Council, in collaboration with the Municipal Sports Chess School, is hosting the thirty-ninth edition of this popular night tournament. This annual event is part of the town’s summer program and is the only amateur chess competition of its kind in Spain. The XXXIX Chess Night Trophy ‘Ciudad de Estepona 2025’ will run from 8:00 pm to midnight, with participants aged between 6 and 90 years old. Registration is free and can be done by emailing escueladeajedrez@estepona.es. The tournament, created by the late Miguel Abril from the Municipal Chess School, has become a major event for amateur players nationwide. Over the years, it has attracted local participants, members of the Municipal School, and players from various regions across Andalusia and Spain. With five separate tournaments planned, each divided by age group, players will compete for top honors in their respective categories. Trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each category, with all participants receiving diplomas.
