Various brotherhoods, groups, and residents will erect their shrines at different locations in the city on May 1st. The City Council-organized competition will judge the beauty, decoration, adherence to tradition, and craftsmanship of the details used. The Estepona Town Hall has announced that on Thursday, May 1st, the traditional ‘May Crosses’ competition will take place, where the beauty of these shrines will be recognized. The municipality aims to preserve the popular support for this tradition and provide another attraction for visitors to the historic center. This year, a total of six shrines created by brotherhoods, groups, and residents will participate. The jury, comprised of Parks and Gardens municipal technicians and neighborhood group members, will visit the shrines unannounced from noon onwards to evaluate the beauty of the shrine, its decoration, adherence to tradition, craftsmanship, and the details used. The Fiestas mayor, Macarena Diánez, has announced a single category for the best shrine in streets or squares. The jury will select the top shrines, with the first-place winner receiving 1,000 euros, the second-place winner 750 euros, the third-place winner 500 euros, and 300 euros for each remaining participant. Each shrine will offer a bar service for citizens to enjoy food and drinks while appreciating this tradition. The shrines will be located in the following spaces, assigned based on registration order: Begines Square for the Royal Brotherhood of Santa María de los Remedios, Cristo del Amor Passage and Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza for the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Love, Rocío Square for the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus the Captive, Veracruz Street for the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Veracruz, Virgen del Carmen Square for the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Crowned Carmen, and Juan Bazán Square for the residents of Juan Bazán Square.
