The renowned ‘Popi, Ciudad de Estepona’ World Ham Competition, recognized as an ‘Event of Tourist Interest of Andalusia’, is set to take place from August 8 to 17 along the picturesque Paseo Marítimo. This gastronomic extravaganza will feature nightly free concerts by acclaimed artists like Joana Jiménez, Kiki Morente, No me Pises que llevo chanclas, and Mojinos Escozíos, among others. Estepona’s mayor, José María García Urbano, the skilled ham cutter José María Téllez ‘Popi’, and artist Kiki Morente unveiled the upcoming edition of this prestigious competition, emphasizing its significance as a culinary milestone in the region. The event, hailed as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, is a joint effort by José María Téllez ‘Popi’, the Estepona City Council, ‘Sabor a Málaga’ brand from the Provincial Council of Malaga, and the Ministry of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía. With 65 exhibitors and over 200 professional ham cutters participating, the competition aims to showcase Spain’s renowned gastronomic heritage and elevate the art of ham cutting. Visitors can indulge in a vast array of ham, pork products, cheeses, artisan breads, and wines from Malaga, all available at affordable prices. The event will kick off with a grand inauguration on August 8, featuring a special performance to mark its tenth anniversary, followed by a series of nightly musical acts as part of the ‘Jamón Festival Music’.
