Today, the mayor, José María García Urbano, finalized an agreement to expand the municipal network of public parking, offering users the opportunity to park at the La Viña facility for only one euro per day. The Estepona City Council has taken over the La Viña parking lot, previously in private hands since 2005, and will begin managing it from August 1. This change will result in a significant cost reduction, with parking now available for just one euro during daytime hours. Furthermore, the new rates will also allow for 24-hour parking at a rate of 3 euros, compared to the previous 17 euros. The Aprona Foundation, dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities, will oversee the management of the La Viña parking lot as part of the municipal parking plan. This initiative not only provides more affordable parking options for residents but also creates employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The City Council is also working on expanding the parking network with two new facilities under construction, adding over 600 parking spaces. The shift from privatized parking with high rates to a public parking model offering affordable rates reflects the current government’s commitment to providing accessible and inclusive parking options for the community.
