Starting in October, the Estepona City Council will introduce a new reading and conversation club dedicated to philosophy at the Municipal Library’s ‘María Zambrano’ room. The aim of this initiative is to foster critical thinking and dialogue in today’s society. Led by expert Anthony Carroll, the monthly group will kick off on October 1 at 6:00 p.m. with a historical journey through philosophy. The club, based at the Municipal Library in the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, will provide a space for exploring the great ideas of history and engaging in meaningful discussions. In a world filled with information overload and rapid changes, philosophy equips us with the necessary tools to navigate complexity, enabling us to comprehend both our surroundings and ourselves. By asking fundamental questions about existence, morality, truth, and knowledge, philosophy encourages us to pause, ponder, and examine ideas deeply and rigorously. This process cultivates empathy and understanding by exploring diverse perspectives and thought systems. Tony Carroll, the author of ‘A History of Philosophy,’ will lead the reading and conversation group. His book offers a concise analysis of key philosophical events and texts, delving into the core principles and ideals that have shaped Western thought. The inaugural session on October 1 will provide an overview of the history of philosophy, spanning from ancient Greek philosophers to the contemporary era. Culture Councilor Macarena Diánez extends an invitation to all interested individuals, emphasizing that prior knowledge is not required—only a sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn. Registration is available via email at biblioteca@estepona.es. While pre-registration facilitates organization and ensures space availability, the club’s essence lies in open participation and the shared exploration of the captivating realm of philosophy.
