Nearly twenty playgrounds are undergoing a makeover as part of a comprehensive renovation project. Estepona City Council has announced that the initiative to revamp and upgrade playgrounds across the city has achieved a 60 percent completion rate. The primary objective of this endeavor is to ensure these recreational spaces for children, situated both in urban areas and suburban settings, are safe and enjoyable. The initial phase of the plan covers a total of 18 parks, with 10 already fully refurbished. Locations such as Plaza de las Nieves in Cancelada, Plaza de la Concordia, Isdabe, Blas Infante, Picasso, Avenida Andalucía, Ortega y Gasset street, Parque del Ángel, Santiago Apostol, Congreso streets, and Plaza del Ajedrez have all benefited from the improvements. Remaining sites like the playground at the municipal nursery of Cancelada, Plaza de los Pescadores, Altos de Guadalobón, Jardín de la Vega, Terraza street, Fair and Sports Park, and Plaza de la Comunicación are scheduled for upgrades in the near future. Additionally, enhancements to the children’s playground on Espronceda Street have already commenced. The financial commitment to this initiative amounts to 7545,254 euros, covering the installation of safer rubber pavements and the replacement of worn-out play equipment. Old elements that can be salvaged are being repurposed, while any obstructing street furniture is being relocated to ensure a more child-friendly environment. New playground sets and features are being introduced to meet safety standards, with colored metal fences being erected in areas lacking perimeter protection. Ultimately, this ongoing effort aims to replace outdated and inadequate play structures with modern, high-quality amenities tailored to the needs of young visitors. This initial phase sets the stage for a comprehensive refurbishment of all playgrounds throughout the municipality in the coming months.
