The author Julia Viejo Sanchez from Madrid has been awarded the V International Poetry Prize ‘Ciudad de Estepona’ by the City Council of Estepona for her work ‘Anidan minerales’, which has been published by Pre-Textos and comes with a prize of 7,000 euros. The ceremony took place at the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center and was led by Mayor Jose Maria Garcia Urbano. This competition, organized by the Consistory, is renowned in Spain for its high participation and significant prize of 7,000 euros, along with the publication of the winning work by the esteemed Editorial Pre-Textos, a leading publisher in Castilian poetry. Over 2,300 works were submitted in this fifth edition. The event included a meeting with the author for the audience, followed by a performance by Abraham Boba, the vocalist of León Benavente. Mayor José María García Urbano highlighted the award’s establishment as a prominent literary prize with a promising future due to its increasing popularity. Julia Viejo Sánchez, born in Madrid in 1981, is known for her short story collection ‘En la celda había una luciérnaga’ (Blackie Books, 2022) and the novel ‘Mala estrella’ (2024). She has contributed to the short story anthology ‘Una Navidad así’ (Tusquets, 2024) and has curated two poetry anthologies by Gloria Fuertes (‘Lo que pasa es que te quiero’, 2023, and ‘La gente corre tanto’, 2024). Additionally, she has translated ‘Cometa rojo: arte incandescente y vida fugaz de Sylvia Plath’ (Bamba editorial, 2023).
