The cultural initiative to promote book exchange outside educational centers has been strengthened by the Consistory. The City Council of Estepona has recently announced the expansion of the Network of Spaces of ‘Free Books’ by setting up new booths at the entrance of the 13 public schools in the area. These wooden booths allow readers of all ages to freely pick up or deposit books at any time of the day, emphasizing the project’s motto, ‘Pick it up, read it and share it’. This move underscores the council’s dedication to fostering reading habits and ensuring access to culture, especially within the educational community. The councilor responsible for Culture and Festivities, Macarena Diánez, highlighted that this extension aims to instill a love for reading from a young age and encourage active participation in book exchanges among students, families, and teachers. The network, which initially consisted of a dozen wooden houses in various locations, has now expanded to include 23 booths, including those at schools. The City Council plans to continue providing titles for the new booths and explore further expansions to make reading accessible in every corner of Estepona.
