In order to enhance the road infrastructure, the City Council is driving forward a program aimed at enhancing around twenty roads across the municipality. A total of seven companies have submitted bids to carry out the new Municipal Asphalt Plan 2025-2026, which will enhance a selection of streets and avenues in the municipality, with particular attention to the outskirts of the city. This initiative marks the seventh program of action activated by the City Council in this domain, ensuring the ongoing enhancement of roads that has been ongoing in recent years on both main and secondary streets in the city. The primary goal of the project is to rejuvenate the pavements of several roads, with a focus on sustainability criteria. These efforts aim to enhance the safety and comfort of road users, while also reducing noise and atmospheric pollution caused by traffic. Moreover, these endeavors will aid in preserving the municipal road infrastructure, preventing deterioration that could necessitate complete pavement reconstruction, thereby increasing economic costs. The selection and prioritization of roads for rehabilitation have been based on factors such as pavement wear, age, and average traffic intensity. According to Ana Velasco, deputy mayor for Infrastructure, Development, and Tourism (FIT), these plans ensure comprehensive interventions that guarantee road functionality and prolong their lifespan. A total of 19 roads are slated for intervention, selected based on road surface deterioration, with the possibility of additional roads being included as the project progresses. Specifically, in the city center, work will be conducted on Carmen Laforet Street, Puerta del Mar Avenue, Los Reales Avenue, Segovia Avenue, Camelias Street, and Guadalmina River Street. In suburban areas, the targeted locations include Lubina Street, Alfarnate, Alcaucín, Mexico Avenue, Violeta Street, Levante Street, Del Reposo Street, Bahía Azul Urbanization, Tenis Street, Romero Street, Camomila Street, La Paz Avenue, and Edison Street. The initial bidding budget stands at 1,757,313 euros, with all proposals received during the public tender process reflecting reduced costs. This latest plan complements the six previous initiatives undertaken in the city, enhancing over 250 streets and involving actions on approximately 300,000 square meters of urban and suburban surfaces. This project aligns with the city’s revitalization efforts, including the comprehensive revitalization of the old town and the enhancement of various municipal enclaves. Improved asphalting contributes to bolstering road safety, prompting the Estepona City Council to continue implementing new plans that encompass both city center and suburban streets.
