Mayor endorses ‘Hope Bands’ project involving seven local football and basketball teams

The initiative known as ‘Hope Bands’ by the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Estepona saw over 1,500 green bracelets distributed to players of local teams to raise awareness about the disease during their upcoming matches. Estepona’s mayor, José María García Urbano, was present at the launch of this project by the AECC. Seven soccer and basketball teams in the area received the green bracelets for players and coaches to wear during their games, aiming to bring attention to the fight against cancer and show support for patients and their families. The mayor commended the teams for participating in this campaign coinciding with World Cancer Day on February 4th. Among the local teams supporting the initiative are C.D Estepona Senior Football, C.D. Estepona Femenino, C.D Estepona Fútbol Base, A.D.C. Esteponense, C.D. Estepona Fútbol Base, A.D.C. Esteponense, C.D. Estepona Football. Esteponense, C.D. Colegio San José, C.D Cancelada and the Club de Amigos del Baloncesto (CAB) of Estepona. García Urbano emphasized the importance of such initiatives in raising awareness about the impact of cancer on society, praising the solidarity shown by the teams in Estepona. Meanwhile, Julia Crespo, president of AECC in Estepona, highlighted the significance of the green bracelet as a symbol of hope and solidarity in the fight against cancer. She expressed the desire for the bracelet to become a universal emblem against the disease, providing comfort and support to those affected. Crespo underlined the importance of addressing the various needs of patients and their families. Lastly, the mayor urged citizens to support AECC’s projects, recognizing the valuable work they do in caring for those affected by cancer.
