The comprehensive renovation of the Municipal Archaeological Museum is close to completion, with 80 percent of the work already finished. This includes the addition of a new, spacious exhibition hall on the upper level, along with renovations to the central patio, carpentry, flooring, stairs, and the installation of an elevator. The Estepona City Council has invested 97,999 euros (VAT included) in this project, aimed at doubling the exhibition space of the museum. The new large room on the top floor will showcase numerous archaeological pieces that were previously stored due to space constraints. The ongoing work also involves the restoration of old ceiling beams from the eighteenth century, the refurbishment of toilets, and the removal of a fountain in the central courtyard. Further improvements such as polishing the floor, installing new lighting, painting, and final touches are yet to be completed. Once finished, the museum will house a collection of archaeological pieces dating back to prehistoric, Roman, and Islamic periods, providing visitors with insights into the origins of Estepona. This initiative aims to give these historical artifacts a permanent home within the museum’s walls. The Municipal Archaeological Museum, constructed in the eighteenth century, features a unique layout with a central courtyard containing a cistern from the Muslim era, surrounded by an arcaded gallery on both floors distributing various exhibition rooms.
