The City Council of Estepona has announced a free environmental workshop taking place on Thursday, March 5, at Mirador del Carmen. This workshop aims to educate the public about their rights and responsibilities in preventing forest fires. Organized by the Department of Sustainability and Environment of the Andalusian Government and co-financed by the European Union, the workshop is open to all citizens, particularly those living in urban-forest areas, homeowners, landowners, and local community groups. Estepona is highly susceptible to forest fires and other climate change-related risks, such as heatwaves and droughts, making citizen involvement crucial in fire prevention. Topics covered during the workshop include forest fires in Andalusia, common causes, local risk factors, citizen obligations (land cleaning, fire use, self-protection), citizen rights, participation, safety, and institutional support.
