Once again, Estepona will serve as the starting point for a charitable journey involving nearly fifty vehicles, set to kick off on April 2 from the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos. The municipality of Estepona has announced that on Thursday, April 2, it will mark the official start of the Charity Car Rally ‘Desert Expedition’ 2026, a non-competitive orienteering and motor race open to all, blending adventure with philanthropy and honoring historical motorized expeditions across Africa. Organized by Motor Adventure S.L. in partnership with the local council, the non-competitive event will see participating vehicles entering a designated area at the Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses from 09:00 to undergo team presentations and technical inspections until 13:00, when the departure towards the port of Algeciras for Africa will commence. Nearly fifty vehicles will take part in this fifteenth edition of the event, the ninth to start from Estepona, split into two categories: ‘Desert’, featuring small vintage vehicles from the 80s and 90s, and ‘All-Terrain’, showcasing SUVs and 4x4s. The convoy will traverse Morocco over eight days, following a bespoke route designed to challenge participants’ sand driving skills and vehicle mechanics. A core tenet of the Desert Expedition is its solidarity with underprivileged communities in the Moroccan regions it traverses. In the 2026 edition, the event will focus on its new flagship initiative: ‘MILyDOSgafas’. This groundbreaking project will enable attendees to distribute prescription glasses and recycled sunglasses. Additionally, a team of optometrists will conduct eye examinations for individuals lacking resources in various Moroccan communities, providing them with customized eyewear to significantly enhance their quality of life.
