A symbolic 5-kilometer march will be held on Saturday, May 9, starting at 06.00 am from the Paseo Marítimo (Malva Beach beach bar). The proceeds will support individuals at risk of suicide and their families. Maria Aguilar, councilor for Citizen Participation, and Cristian Gonzalez, president of the Association of Families and People with Mental Illness of the Costa del Sol (AFESOL), introduced the solidarity march ‘From Darkness to Light’ in Estepona. This event, happening globally on May 9, aims to raise funds for suicide prevention programs and support for those affected by loss due to suicide. Participants of all ages can join the non-competitive march, symbolically starting in darkness and ending with the dawn at Mirador del Carmen. ‘From Darkness to Light’ originated in Dublin 17 years ago and has since gained significant worldwide participation. Registration costs 22 euros and can be completed online or in person at Afesol Mental Health centers in Estepona and Benalmádena.
