Various Brotherhoods will display their ‘May Crosses’ in different locations across the city center, with a jury evaluating them from noon onwards. Criteria such as Cross beauty, ornamentation, adherence to tradition, and craftsmanship will be considered. Prizes of €1,000 for the winner, €750 for second place, €500 for third, and €300 for the rest will be awarded. Estepona City Council has announced the upcoming ‘Cruces de Mayo’ contest on May 2, encouraging the embellishment of streets with floral altars to honor tradition. This year, five altars crafted by Brotherhoods will take part in the competition. Judging will be based on various factors including Cross beauty, setting ornamentation, tradition adherence, craftsmanship, and details. Winners will be announced after the jury visits all entries. The event will feature bar service for attendees to enjoy food and drinks. The altars will be placed in different locations: Plaza Begines, Salvador Dalí Street, Virgen del Rocío Square, Calle Veracruz, and Plaza Virgen del Carmen.
