Registration Period Open for the ‘Burning of the Beards of San Juan’ 2026 Competition

The deadline for registering the ‘Burns’ is June 12 at the City Council’s General Register, and they will be ignited on Tuesday, June 23, at La Rada Beach, at 00:00 hours, kicking off the Night of San Juan. The Estepona City Council has initiated the registration period for the XLVI Contest ‘Burning of the Whiskers of San Juan’, scheduled for June 23 on La Rada beach. As per the regulations of this local competition, Festivities Councillor Macarena Diánez has stated that individuals, associations, brotherhoods, and neighborhood groups can participate. Registration forms are available in Annex I of the Regulations and can be submitted in person or via the Electronic Headquarters at the City Council’s General Register for Festivals, from May 11 to June 12, 2026. Participants must provide sketches of their Burn designs. Guidelines can be found at www.estepona.es or in the Electronic Services section. All Burns for the contest will be placed in the designated area on La Rada Beach. The theme and size of the Burn are at the discretion of the participants. Designs that disrespect honor, privacy, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or contain xenophobic messages will be disqualified. Festivities delegation has established prizes for the top Burns: First Prize – 1,000 euros + trophy; Second Prize – 750 euros + Trophy; Third Prize – 500 euros + Trophy; Fourth to Seventh Prize – 300 euros each. The jury, consisting of the Festivities Councillor or her delegate and a member from each registered ‘Burn’, will judge based on theme, artistry, creativity, tradition, humor, originality, and popularity. Burns will be ignited from 00:00 hours at the start of the Night of San Juan. The City Council may spare exceptional Burns for future municipal events.
