The presentation, scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m., will be led by journalist Paco Reyero. This Friday, May 22, the Estepona City Council announced that the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center will be the venue for the launch of ‘Morante, point and apart’, the latest book by journalist and author Rubén Amón. The event, moderated by journalist Paco Reyero, will kick off at 20:00. Entrance will be free until full capacity is reached. In his new publication, Rubén Amón delves into the causes and inexplicable reasons why bullfighter Morante de la Puebla has become a cultural icon, countercultural hero, and a radical artistic representation. The journalist emphasizes that “Morante is more than just a bullfighter. He is an event. A phenomenon. A cultural icon. An artist who has transcended time and the world of bullfighting to become a prominent figure in society, politics, culture, and aesthetics”. Throughout his book, Amón aims to recount the enigmatic journey of this figure, even though much of it remains unexplained. “Morantism is not a passing trend: it is a symbol, a unique approach to art, a mystery, an identity, and a sense of nostalgia,” the author explains. The result is a vibrant, literary, critical, and impassioned piece of work, which does not seek to tame Morante, but rather to explore his enigma. It offers a blend of journalistic storytelling and thoughtful analysis. Rubén Amón, a seasoned journalist and writer, began his professional path at just 18 years old at Antena 3 Radio. He later joined El Mundo in 1990, initially in the Culture section, before serving as a war correspondent in the Balkans, and working as a correspondent in Rome and Paris. His writing has been featured in various international publications (such as Reforma in Mexico, Corriere della Sera, and Libèration), and he has contributed as a columnist and reporter for El País. Since 2019, he has been a columnist for El Confidencial. His extensive literary portfolio covers a wide array of subjects, including bullfighting, football, politics, and opera. Since 2015, he has been a collaborator on the radio show Más de uno on Onda Cero, alongside Carlos Alsina. Additionally, he currently hosts and presents the weekly program La Cultureta on Onda Cero. As of 2021, he has been a guest on the current affairs talk show El Hormiguero 3.0.
