For a fee of 5 euros per serving, visitors can sample delicious rice dishes starting at 2:00 pm. Estepona’s City Council has announced that the II Paella Contest will take place at El Calvario Municipal Park on Sunday, May 31. This event, organized by the council, aims to showcase the town’s gastronomic heritage and rice dish tradition, offering affordable prices for attendees to savor these culinary delights. Additionally, the initiative seeks to promote and appreciate the use of local ingredients. Contestants will need to cover the costs of preparing their paellas, including the pan and gas canister, while oil and vegetables will be provided by the organizers. Registered participants are encouraged to prepare any type of paella with a minimum of 50 servings, available for tasting at 5 euros per portion from 14:00 onwards. The event will be managed by the Royal and Ancient Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of the Veracruz. Participants must arrive at El Calvario Park by 12:00 to receive their numbers and designated cooking spots. A panel of industry professionals will serve as the judges, awarding cash prizes on the same day: 1st Prize: 1,000 euros, 2nd Prize: 500 euros, 3rd Prize: 250 euros, and additional runner-up prizes of 100 euros.
