On Tuesday, June 2, the writing workshop ‘Verses for Soothing Any Pain’ will be led by Ben Clark, followed by the presentation of his latest poetry collection ‘Nuclear Semiotics’ on Wednesday, June 3. The Estepona City Council has organized these two activities at the Library of Contemporary Cultures in Mirador del Carmen featuring Ben Clark, a highly acclaimed poet in our country. Clark, a recipient of prestigious poetry awards such as the Loewe and Hiperión, will conduct the writing workshop on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. To participate in this free workshop, interested individuals must register at bcc@estepona.es. The following day, Wednesday, June 3, at 8:00 pm, Ben Clark will present ‘Nuclear Semiotics’ with free admission until the venue reaches full capacity. This collection of poems delves into the concept of language’s limitations, resistance, and failures, transforming uncertainty into clarity. Through explorations of sealed archives and fragmented mythologies, the poems ponder on the remnants of civilizations and the potential interpreters of their signs. The work reflects on memory and the imperative of expression even in the absence of guaranteed readers. Ben Clark, a poet and translator, has released various poetry collections including ‘The Children of the Children of Wrath’, ‘Cabotage’, ‘Garbage’, ‘The Beast’, ‘The Last Dogs of Shackleton’, and ‘The Celestial Police’, for which he received the El Ojo Crítico de RNE de Poesía award in 2014. Additionally, he has translated the works of poets like Edward Thomas, Anne Sexton, Stephen Dunn, and Saul Williams. Clark serves as a trustee at the Antonio Gala Foundation for Young Creators in Cordoba and mentors poetry scholars. He has conducted poetry workshops in several countries and served as a judge for prominent poetry awards such as the International Poetry Prize ‘Ciudad de Estepona’, the Generation of 27 Poetry Prize, and the José de Espronceda Poetry Prize.
