Two new paddle tennis courts will be built in the Nueva Atalaya urbanization, joining the existing sports facilities in the area. Located between the streets Nueva Atalaya and Avenida Pernet, construction has already commenced to expand the network of sports options in Estepona. These additions will enhance the public sports amenities in the outskirts, which already include a paddle tennis court and a multi-sports court for indoor soccer, basketball, and other activities. The project involves leveling and enhancing the plot, clearing the area, constructing the new courts, and providing electricity and rainwater drainage services, covering a total area of 400 square meters. Deputy Mayor Ana Velasco highlights that these new courts will not only offer more opportunities for sports, but also help revitalize the area and promote social integration through physical activity. The construction cost amounts to 124,503.57 euros, with an expected completion time of three months. The City Council’s efforts to enhance sports infrastructure extend to other suburban areas, as seen with the recent expansion of sports facilities in Cancelada, dedicated to the memory of Ignacio Echeverría, who tragically lost his life in a terrorist attack in London in 2017. This upgraded space now features a calisthenics park, two petanque courts, and a table tennis area, in addition to the existing skate park and green spaces.
