The City Council of Estepona is moving forward with its plan to enhance the city’s sports infrastructure by inviting bids for the construction and operation of a new sports complex. This complex will feature an indoor heated pool, tennis courts, paddle tennis courts, and petanque courts. The facility will be situated on a municipally-owned plot in the Camino de las Mesas sector, bordered by the streets Netherlands, France, and Avenida Puerta del Mar. The bidding process includes the concession of private use for the development and management of the sports complex on an 11,150 square meter land. The specifications for the project require the construction of a building that accommodates a minimum 25.00 x 25.00 meter heated pool, with the possibility of adding a children’s pool. Additionally, the complex will include a grandstand with seating for at least 200 people. The facility will also house a minimum of 6 racquet courts, 4 for paddle tennis and 2 for tennis, each complying with specific regulations. The project further includes outdoor spaces for other sports activities, such as two petanque courts. Amenities within the building will include bathrooms, changing rooms, offices, and service areas, along with optional recreational spaces, classrooms, gymnasium, sports store, and food and beverage facilities. A parking lot for a minimum of 40 vehicles will be provided, along with landscaped areas surrounding the complex. The successful bidder will be responsible for financing the construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility for the duration of the 50-year concession. The construction must commence within a day of receiving the building permit and be completed within 12 months. The City Council will evaluate bids based on various criteria, including the proposed fee, discounts for residents, number of courts, transfer of courts to the Town Hall, landscaping improvements, and use of clean energy systems. The City Council revoked the previous concession due to contractual breaches, resulting in the seizure of financial guarantees.
