Preparations for the opening of the new El Carmen public parking garage in Estepona this summer are in their final stages. The facility will provide over 300 new parking spaces in the downtown area, supplementing the existing 2,000 spaces under the municipal parking system that charge a user fee of 1 euro for the entire day. Construction work on the underground structure is complete, with current efforts focused on interior installations and finishes, as well as finalizing surrounding infrastructure improvements. Paving on Manuel Navarro Mollor Street is finished, while progress continues on Padre Fernando and Guadiaro Streets, expected to be completed soon. The project’s technical complexity, due to its central location and proximity to neighboring buildings, required careful execution during the initial construction phases. Once finished, the City Council plans to create a new public square, maintain on-street parking spaces, and enhance vehicle traffic flow, improving the appearance and functionality of the city center. Mayor José María García Urbano highlighted the project’s benefits in terms of mobility, neighborhood revitalization, and overall comfort for residents, as well as its positive impact on economic activity and public spaces quality. The new parking garage will offer over 300 spaces on three underground levels, complementing existing municipal parking areas at various locations in the city. The construction, carried out by Innovaciones Técnicas y Recursos Constructivos S.A., represents an investment exceeding 10 million euros, with a 1.4 million euro grant from the European Union’s Next Generation EU program.
