A fresh edition of the assisted bathing program for individuals with limited mobility and disabilities is being introduced by the City Council. This program is specifically designed for users of the Home Help Service offered by the municipal Social Services department. The main objective is to allow those who face difficulties reaching the beach to have a pleasant beach day, which contributes to their overall health and well-being. The program is part of the Community Social Services’ Social Interaction, Recreation, and Leisure Activities initiative. The activity takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, accommodating 16 participants weekly. They are transported in an accessible vehicle starting at 10:00 a.m. and engage in swimming at El Cristo Beach from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This beach area is easily accessible and provides facilities for people with disabilities, including parking, changing rooms, and showers. Participants are accompanied by two aides from the Home Care Service. Additionally, they have access to amphibious wheelchairs, an adapted lounge chair, a walker, and special crutches for sand mobility. Extra equipment can be provided based on demand and individual needs. Apart from this program, a daily assisted swimming service is available at La Rada and El Cristo beaches until September 15, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with trained professionals and adapted equipment.
