A positive report from the General Directorate of Mobility and Transportation of the Regional Ministry of Public Works, Territorial Planning, and Housing of the Regional Government of Andalusia has led to the approval of the Estepona City Council’s decision to increase the number of accessible taxis. The council has given the green light to add five new accessible vehicles to the local Euro Taxis fleet, each capable of accommodating up to 9 passengers. This move is aimed at enhancing the services available to residents. With this expansion, the municipality will now have a total of 95 licenses for accessible taxis, up from the previous 90. This increase is expected to bolster the service, provide better assistance to residents and visitors, and cater to the growing demand for mobility in the city. The decision was supported by a positive assessment from the General Directorate of Mobility and Transportation, a department of the Regional Ministry of Development, Territorial Planning, and Housing of the Regional Government of Andalusia. The report recognized the necessity of this measure, especially considering the significant population growth in the city over the last 14 years, particularly between 2020 and 2025, when almost 10,000 new residents were added. Additionally, the transient population attracted to the municipality due to its tourism industry has played a role in the increased demand for transportation services. The report also highlighted the rise in economic activity within the municipality, leading to increased travel between different parts of the city and to other areas of the province. By expanding the accessible taxi fleet, the City Council is furthering its commitment to providing efficient, accessible, and high-quality public transportation.
