Scheduled for Thursday, August 13, the ‘Ciudad de Estepona’ Night Chess Tournament for amateurs will be held on the Paseo MarĂtimo, welcoming up to 200 players of all ages. Organized by the Estepona City Council in collaboration with the Municipal Chess Sports School, this tournament has become a summer tradition in the town and stands out as the only competition of its kind for amateur players in Spain. The games will take place from 8:00 p.m. to midnight, with participants ranging from 6 to 90 years old. Registration is free and can be completed via email at escueladeajedrez@estepona.es or through WhatsApp at 619063600. The tournament will feature five separate competitions in different age categories, each with its own time control and round system. Trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each category, while all participants will receive certificates. Founded by Miguel Abril, a former instructor at the Municipal Chess School, the Night Chess Tournament has garnered a strong following over the years, attracting players from Estepona, Andalusia, and beyond. Its casual and inclusive atmosphere makes it a favorite among chess enthusiasts.
