Six months ago, the City Council of Estepona made six municipal plots available to the national government as part of its initiative to increase the housing supply in Spain. However, there has been no response from the Spanish government regarding the construction of 109 affordable housing units on these plots. The City Council’s proposal, approved by the full council, remains unanswered, raising uncertainty about whether the central government will accept the land. The plots, located in areas like Casas del Padrón and Llanos de la Boladilla, were offered in response to the government’s plan to finance the construction of 15,000 units per year through the “España Crece” fund. Despite the mayor’s efforts to collaborate with the central government, no communication has been received on the matter. These plots form part of the City Council’s land reserve for affordable housing projects, including 22 and 23 units in Casas del Padrón, 9 and 17 units in Llanos de la Boladilla, and 17 and 21 units on Camino de Cortes. Estepona’s commitment to providing access to housing for those in need has already resulted in the construction of 100 social housing units in the Juan Benítez area. Efforts are ongoing to secure land for over 1,200 additional housing units, with short-term initiatives already in progress. The Vimpyca Foundation is also working towards obtaining construction permits for 117 units on Camino de Cortes Sur.
