The performance of the musical piece by David Rivas, winner of the 5th International Composition Competition for Symphonic Band, is scheduled for November 20 at the Felipe VI Auditorium Theater. The Estepona Municipal Band, under the direction of the composer himself, will present the composition as part of a special concert dedicated to Saint Cecilia. A total of eighteen highly acclaimed musicians from both national and international backgrounds participated in the contest, vying for the 10,000 euro prize. Composer and conductor David Rivas, hailing from Torres, completed the piece titled ‘Estepona, Garden of Light,’ which is inspired by the city. The suite consists of three movements: ‘Natural Environment,’ ‘Light and Urban Landscape,’ and ‘Cultural and Musical Life,’ reflecting a vibrant and luminous portrayal of the city. The premiere of the work, following a review by the specialized committee, will coincide with the public presentation of the award to the winning composer. The competition, aimed at promoting the creation of symphonic works for wind bands inspired by Estepona, was organized by the City Council. The jury, headed by Macarena Diánez, included renowned professionals such as Fernando Ferrer Martínez ‘Ferrer Ferran,’ Óscar Navarro González, and José María Moreno Valiente. David Rivas Domínguez, born in Toro in 1980, boasts an extensive musical career with over 450 compositions premiered worldwide. He has received numerous awards in Spain and internationally, showcasing his talent and dedication to music. Rivas continues to teach music in Castile and León while conducting, judging, and composing music across the globe.
