The restoration of the impressive artistic mural ‘Fishing Day’ in Estepona, considered one of the largest in Spain, has commenced. This masterpiece, created by José Fernández Ríos in 2014 on the facade of six apartment blocks in the Isabel Simón neighborhood, covers nearly a thousand square meters. The restoration efforts are primarily focused on the main facade, which suffered damage during repair works carried out by the community of neighbors due to humidity issues. The artist himself, José Fernández Ríos, known for his expertise in large-format creations, is leading the restoration using outdoor acrylic paint and enamel. The mural, part of Estepona’s Artistic Murals Route, showcases the fisherman casting a rod and catching a piece, employing the trompe l’oeil technique to create a captivating visual sequence. The initiative, launched by the City Council in 2012, has transformed building facades into magnificent canvases, with a total of 74 artistic murals adorning various neighborhoods and areas, enhancing the city’s cultural landscape. The Council has organized three editions of the International Mural Contest to further enrich the route, with the 2024 contest awarding 27,000 euros in prizes.
