The program, known as ‘Mayor: The sound beautifies you’, takes place from March to December in the elderly residences and day centers of the city. Led by professional singer Ana Fargas, the sessions feature a variety of popular songs, flamenco, sevillanas, copla, and boleros. The City Council, along with Councilman Daniel Garcia and director Lorenzo Guerra, unveiled the latest edition of this groundbreaking music therapy initiative. The program is designed to help seniors enhance memory, recall significant songs, and engage in emotional expression and socialization. Participants have reported notable improvements in physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being, underscoring the therapeutic benefits of live singing. Family members and caregivers have also observed positive changes in mood and willingness to participate in other activities. Ana Fargas, a specialist in ‘Care for people in a situation of dependence’, carefully selected a repertoire of songs tailored to the preferences of the elderly, including flamenco, sevillanas, copla, pasodobles, and boleros. The program aims to promote active and healthy aging through music therapy, fostering social connections, empathy, and improved mood. Councilman Daniel Garcia emphasized the City Council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for seniors and supporting their emotional well-being through innovative activities like this music therapy program.
