The Culture delegation is hosting a presentation on Sofonisba Anguissola, who is recognized as the first successful painter of the Renaissance. The event, titled ‘Sofonisba Anguissola, the elegant dissident’, will be led by Rocío Garín, the instructor at the Municipal Drawing and Painting Workshop. Scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m., the talk will be held at the Library of Contemporary Cultures. Admission is free until seating capacity is reached. Anguissola, born in Cremona around 1535 and passing away in Palermo on November 16, 1625, was known for her groundbreaking work in portraiture and self-portraiture, setting new standards in female portraiture. Her successful career paved the way for other women artists who faced exclusion from traditional art institutions but found support in European courts from the 16th to 18th centuries. The presentation, part of the International Women’s Day events, aims to engage audiences of all ages in the visual arts. Rocío Garín, a talented artist from Estepona, has been passionate about drawing and painting since her youth. After studying at the School of Arts and Crafts in Algeciras and graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Seville in 2001, she worked as a restorer in Seville before returning to Estepona in 2002 to teach drawing and painting.
