Nearly 38,000 bills have been subsidized by the Consistory, resulting in an average reduction of 20%. The initiative to lower taxes announced by Mayor José María García Urbano is now in motion at the Estepona City Council. This will have an impact on the upcoming IBI bill to be issued between August and September, bringing relief to about 38,000 households in the municipality. After clearing the debt inherited from previous administrations, resources are now available to implement the largest tax cut in the city’s history. The Real Estate Tax (IBI) for this year will see an average reduction of 20%, benefiting 37,988 registered residents with a total subsidy of 6.1 million euros. With this move, the cumulative drop in IBI since 2011 will reach 50%. The City Council plans to explore further reductions in the tax burden. Additionally, a 3% reduction in the garbage rate will be applied to residents who deposit waste at the city’s clean point. This measure applies to items like electrical equipment, furniture, oils, light bulbs, X-rays, and clothing. Users must request this reduction from the Provincial Collection Board in the first quarter of 2026 by submitting an application and proof of garbage fee payment from the previous year. Estepona Town Hall has already been providing tax benefits in the garbage tax to vulnerable neighbors, long-term unemployed individuals, and retirees.
