Improvements are being made to the safety of the ‘Las Hormigas’ roundabout on the A-7 near Arroyo Vaquero. These enhancements include strengthening luminous vertical signage to promote speed moderation, installing beacons, and upgrading lighting around the entire outer perimeter. The Estepona City Council is overseeing these improvements to optimize visibility and signaling in the area. The ongoing works involve replacing 20 meters of guardrails, reinforcing luminous vertical signage for appropriate entry speed, and adding headlights to enhance road visibility. Additionally, the lighting surrounding the roundabout is being upgraded with new luminaires. While these actions will enhance safety, efforts to reduce entry speed to the roundabout are also necessary, a responsibility of the Ministry of Development. The construction of this roundabout was made possible through a collaboration between the government team and the Ministry of Development in 2015, fulfilling a demand from residents since 2007. Situated in a rapidly growing area with new commercial and educational facilities, as well as providing access to the High Resolution Hospital, the roundabout has improved access to the highway from the western part of the municipality, reducing unnecessary travel for daily commuters.
