The City Council is urging the central government to take immediate action due to the high risk posed by the numerous potholes and deteriorating road surface on the A-7 highway in Estepona. The current situation has worsened during the rainy season, with over 300 areas in need of repair, as reported by municipal technicians. Mayor José María García Urbano has reached out to Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, to ensure the safety and proper conditions for drivers. The City Council of Estepona is calling for swift action to address the significant flaws on the A-7 highway, a crucial route for transportation across the Costa del Sol. The road’s condition, including large potholes, poses a threat to the safety of thousands of daily commuters. Mayor García Urbano has formally requested immediate repairs, maintenance, and enhancements to the affected section within the municipality to uphold safety and traffic flow. The road’s current state is described as severely deteriorated, causing inconvenience to drivers and a heightened safety risk. The situation has been further exacerbated during the rainy season, requiring urgent intervention at over 300 locations, according to municipal experts. With average daily traffic exceeding 65,000 vehicles and peaking at 100,000 during tourist seasons, the inadequate road maintenance increases the likelihood of accidents due to sudden maneuvers to avoid hazards. The Town Council has been inundated with complaints from residents, transporters, and regular commuters, expressing apprehension over the highway’s poor state and urging prompt repairs. Mayor García Urbano emphasizes the need for immediate government intervention to prevent escalating damages over time.
