The local government continues to support economic programs aimed at meeting the essential needs of residents, such as the soup kitchen, habitability fund, emergency fund, family financial aid, support for non-profit organizations, and animal protection. The Department of Social Services and Social Integration processed approximately 1,500 applications over the past year, including direct aid requests and certificate issuance. Estepona City Council has significantly increased funding for various assistance programs to almost one million euros. Notably, the budget for social emergency aid remains flexible, allowing for adjustments based on emerging needs throughout the year. The council has been actively involved in several social support initiatives, allocating 965,561.49 euros in the 2026 municipal budget for programs like the soup kitchen, emergency aid, family financial assistance, non-profit organization support, habitability fund, sports, animal welfare compliance, and aid for young artists. Mayor José María García Urbano emphasizes the government’s ongoing commitment to assisting vulnerable citizens, highlighting past collaborations with organizations like the soup kitchen EMAÚS and the habitability fund. The latter, established in 2017, offers grants to help low-income residents improve their living conditions through home renovations, subject to specific income and housing criteria. In 2025, 80 individuals received economic aid for emergencies, family support, and social exclusion prevention, totaling 117,455 euros. The council also referred 339 individuals to the soup kitchen, benefiting a total of 630 users. Social Welfare resolved approximately 1,500 applications last year, primarily involving administrative procedures to support residents in their interactions with external entities. Additionally, the council processed requests for vulnerability reports, social exclusion collective accreditations, social integration reports for foreigners, travel ticket authorizations, parking permits for individuals with disabilities, and certificates of non-receipt of municipal financial aid. These efforts facilitate access to public assistance programs and employment opportunities for vulnerable groups. Furthermore, the council assisted with requests for child nutrition support in public schools, water rate discounts, and social electric bill bonuses.
